Head of Finance

Job Description:

The Head of Finance will act as a strategic advisor and financial steward for the Mecsia subsidiary, while ensuring alignment with Group financial objectives. This role bridges operational finance and strategic planning, providing insight, challenge and support to both Mecsia subsidiary leadership and Group Finance. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving performance, improving financial processes and ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Mecsia Subsidiary (ARTIC) Support

  • Partner with operational and commercial teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making.

  • Lead the Finance Team and act as the key finance point of contact to the Mecsia subsidiary business units or divisions.

  • Work closely with operational leads to understand drivers of performance, cost and margin.

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes for the Mecsia subsidiary.

  • Monitor and analyse financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain financial models to support business cases and investment decisions.

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.

  • Support cost control initiatives and margin improvement strategies.

  • Provide financial training and guidance to non-finance stakeholders.

  • Align forecasts with pipeline, renewals, resourcing and delivery assumptions.

  • Review and approve payroll submissions before payment is made.

Group Reporting & Collaboration

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to Group Finance.

  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting across Mecsia subsidiary and Group requirements.

  • Liaise with Group Finance on consolidation, intercompany transactions and audit requirements.

  • Support the implementation of Group-wide financial systems and reporting tools.

  • Contribute to Group-level strategic initiatives, including restructuring, and transformation projects.

  • Work with the Group Head of Financial Planning and Analysis to improve planning tools, data structures and reporting processes.

  • Collaborate with the Group Financial Controller to ensure consistency between management and statutory reporting.

  • Contribute to improvement of cost centre structures, chart of accounts and project reporting accuracy.

Business Partnering & Strategic Insight

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Mecsia Subsidiary (ARTIC) MD and leadership team.

  • Translate financial data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.

  • Prepare financial dashboards to drive visibility and action.

  • Drive performance reviews and challenge assumptions to improve outcomes.

  • Deliver regular reporting packs (monthly, quarterly) to budget holders, analysing variances and tracking key metrics.

  • Collaborate with HR, Operations and Commercial teams to align financial goals with business strategy.

  • Set regular touchpoints between finance and HR, Operations and Commercial: - Weekly tactical meetings: Focus on short-term issues (e.g. cost overruns, work order delays). - Monthly performance reviews: Deep dive into KPIs, trends and corrective actions. - Quarterly strategic sessions: Align on investment priorities, pricing strategy and growth plans.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with post-qualification experience.

  • Proven experience in a finance business partnering role, ideally within FM, construction, or related sectors.

  • Strong understanding of UK GAAP. Experience with financial systems (e.g. SAGE, SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, or similar).

  • Excellent analytical, advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills - able to influence non-finance stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Able to explain financial concepts clearly and drive accountability for results.
